Are you always power raking?

Power raking is something that some people think should be done every year. Why?  Power raking is used to remove cross growing grasses and “thatch”.  Almost all lawns in the Vancouver area have very little thatch.  Power raking is something that should be done sparingly and only if it is needed.  Power raking opens your lawn up to weed seeds that will establish quickly in the newly created open areas.  You may have moss that shows up in your lawn every year and be dealing with it by power raking.  The problem with this is you are dealing only with the symptom and not the disease.  Proper lawn care and getting your lawn in balance will get your moss under control and gone from your lawn.  Understand why you think you need power raking and make the best choice for a long term healthy lawn.
